Bio
Dr. Curtis D. Carey is a passionate strategic communication executive, counselor, and educator.
During a 15-year career in Washington, D.C., Dr. Carey served as the Director of Communication for the U.S. NOAA National Weather Service, and the Director of Communication for the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Carey joined AU’s School of Communication as a professorial lecturer on campus in August 2008, where he taught for the Public Communication Program. He currently teaches and directs graduate students’ research for the Master Arts in Strategic Communication program. Prior to teaching for AU, he was an adjunct communication faculty member from 2001-2005 at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
Dr. Carey earned his Doctor of Philosophy in communication and culture from Howard University in Washington, D.C. His research focused on culture and political rhetoric, including political identity rhetoric. He earned his Master of Arts degree in communication and media studies from the University of Oklahoma, and a B.A. in Asian Studies from the University of the State of New York.
