John Starrels is a Professorial Lecturer at SIS and Guest Professor at the University of California Washington Program. He lectures on international relations and global change. Prior to joining SIS, Starrels was a senior staff member at The International Monetary Fund. His articles have appeared in Current History, Government And Opposition, and World Politics. He also co-authored, with Anita Mallinckrodt, Politics In The German Democratic Republic. His by-lines have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, along with interviews carried in die WirtschaftsWoche, The National Journal, and CBS News.
