What are EagleBucks?

EagleBucks are a convenient, cashless way to make purchases, using the university-issued One Card, both on campus and at many popular off-campus businesses. Like using a debit card, funds are deducted as purchases are made.

EagleBucks Portal

Log onto the EagleBucks Portal with your MyAU ID to:

  • check your balance
  • deposit funds using MasterCard, Visa or American Express
  • view your transaction history for Meal Plan and EagleBucks

Where can I use EagleBucks?

Eaglebucks can be used both on and off-campus. 

  • On-campus dining: at the many dining and retail outlets on campus.
  • Laundry: EagleBucks are the only payment accepted at laundry services at residence halls. 
  • Printing: used if you exceed your alotted number of print/copy services. 
  • Off-campus dining and retail: Many businesses take EagleBucks, both in the AU neighborhood and in some other locations in DC. 

Frequently Asked Questions

An EagleBucks account is automatically added to an eligible AU community member's One Card. (Some guests or contractors do not have access to Eaglebucks.)

Deposits can be made as soon as you've got your One Card. Just go to onecard.american.edu to make deposits and reload.

Students who are meal plan holders will receive an Eaglebucks allotment based on their meal plan enrollment.

Yes, families or guests of students may use the Guest Deposit module at the EagleBuck Portal (onecard.american.edu). You'll need the student's AU ID number and their last name as it appears on their One Card. American University accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. 

To check your EagleBucks balance and meal plan balance, and to review your transaction histories, just go to onecard.american.edu, logging in with your MyAU login.

Eaglebucks balances will carry forward throughout a community member's tenure at American University.

Return of remaining Eaglebucks balances may be granted upon separation from the University or upon confirmed completion of degree.

  • Remaining balance return requests cannot be granted for balances less than $5.00.
  • A $5.00 transaction fee will be assessed for Eaglebucks remaining balance requests.

Submit requests for refunds utilizing the JustAsk Form.

Cash withdrawals cannot be made at any time with Eaglebucks.

Your EagleBucks work with Grubhub, and you can now enjoy delivery from all your favorite off-campus restaurants. And, there is a way to get delivery FREE* from select merchants!

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Download the Grubhub app
  2. Campus Dining > select your university /to select your classification/login to AU and add onecard (Eaglebucks)
  3. View Payment Screen to verify that your EagleBucks are added
  4. Order and enjoy delivery

Where can I use EagleBucks on Grubhub?

  • You’ll have access to any restaurant on the nationwide Grubhub network. This includes many merchants in your local area, as well as the 300k+ merchants on the Grubhub network nationwide. You can edit your location in the Restaurants tab.

Why should I use EagleBucks on Grubhub?

  • Once you add your campus card and EagleBucks account (see above for ‘how to get started’), you will receive a free year of Grubhub Plus subscription service1, so your money goes further with free delivery fees and other benefits.

Will I be charged a delivery fee?

  • No, by adding your campus card and EagleBucks to your Grubhub account, you are eligible to receive a free year of Grubhub Plus subscription service1. Even if you use a different payment method than your campus card and EagleBucks, your Grubhub account is still eligible for Grubhub Plus membership. All other fees (service fees, etc.) are still charged, as shown when you place a Grubhub order.  

Are there any restrictions on what I can order with Grubhub when I use my campus card and EagleBucks to pay?

  • Per the existing campus card policy, EagleBucks are not permitted to be spent on alcohol. If you add alcohol to a Grubhub order, EagleBucks will automatically be removed as an available payment option. Even if you are over 21 years of age, the Grubhub app will not allow you to purchase alcohol if you’re placing an order with your campus card and EagleBucks.

What happens if I don’t have enough money in my EagleBucks account?

  • Your Grubhub order would not process. You can deposit more money on your campus card and EagleBucks by clicking the ‘Add EagleBucks’ in the top menu above. Your family and friends can also make online deposits to your EagleBucks account by clicking the link above.
  • Helpful tip! Download the ‘Transact eAccounts’ app to check and manage your EagleBucks account directly on your phone.

If I have a problem with my Grubhub delivery or order, who do I contact?

  • If there is an issue with your Grubhub delivery or order, please contact Grubhub Support directly from the app. Go to Settings > (scroll down to the Support section) > Support/Help

1 Grubhub Plus membership subscription provides free delivery from all Grubhub Plus merchants.

Having Issues with an EagleBucks service?

For concerns with vending machines, please submit a service or refund request through this form. Requests for refund are reviewed by Auxiliary Services.

EagleBucks and Dining Dollars are stored on your AU One Card and can be reloaded at any time by visiting onecard.american.edu. You can also view recent transactions and account balances through this website.

  • Laundry Machine Malfunctions: Submit a service request directly to Caldwell & Gregory (we unfortunately are not able to on your behalf) for a technician to address your floor's laundry room as soon as possible.
  • Laundry Service Refunds: If EagleBucks were removed from your account, please email eaglebucks@american.edu. Please note that you will need your Caldwell & Gregory service request number, and will need to provide time date and location of the service. We will process your request in up to 7 business days, following review of the request for refund by Housing.

If your card is lost or stolen, please visit onecard.american.edu to freeze your account* as soon as possible. This action prevents your stored value funds from being used while your card is misplaced. While you can freeze your account online, you must visit the One Card & Dining Services office in Mary Graydon Center or email eaglebucks@american.edu to reactivate your AU One Card.

* Please note that freezing your account will only disable Meal Swipes and Eaglebucks funds on your One Card.

  • Replacement Fees for Lost Cards is $20; to be paid by credit card or through a Student Account upon time of replacement.
  • Community members whose One Card photos are more than one (1) year old should anticipate needing to have a new photo captured upon issuance of the replacement One Card.

Transaction Disputes

Return of funds for disputed transactions at retail locations, can first be addressed with a retail location manager.

Printing services at American University utilize community member One Cards for completion of transactions.

Students seeking printing services are issued a per semester allocation for their use of printing. Once that dollar amount has been reached, student's Eaglebucks account will default for payment.
