
Jose Miguel Vivanco
Jose Miguel Vivanco is Director of the Americas Division of Human Rights Watch. He is an expert in Latin America. Before joining Human Rights Watch, Vivanco worked as a lawyer for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in the Organization of American States (OAS). In 1990, he founded the Center for Justice and International Law, a non-governmental organization that lodges complaints with international human rights organizations. Professor Vivanco has also been an associate professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center and the School of Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University. He has published articles in the prestigious newspapers of Latin America. National from Chile, Professor Vivanco studied law at the University of Chile and the Salamanca School of Law in Spain and has a Master's Degree in Law from Harvard Law School.
