Meet the SI leaders

Carly

Carly is a senior double major in Political Science and
Statistics, and this is her second year working as an SI
leader for Basic Statistics. In addition to being an SI leader,
Carly is also the editor in chief of Clocks and Clouds,
which is AU’s undergraduate research journal for political science, policy, and international relations. In her free time, Carly likes to explore the DC restaurant scene with her friends and try new foods.

Jessica

Jessica is a Junior Interdisciplinary Arabic/Middle
East North Africa Studies Major. This is her first semester
as an SI for Microeconomics. In addition to learning new
languages and studying the history of the Middle East, she co-leads the Elite Ballerina Corps Improvisational Comedy Troupe and is an avid actor in its parent organization, the Rude Mechanicals. When she isn't reciting Shakespeare onstage, she devotes her free time to scaling boulders and rock walls, or catching the perfect wave. When she graduates, Jess wants to be a high school language teacher or an outdoor planner (after some considerable travel time).

Kelsea

Kelsea is a junior majoring in Accounting and
minoring in French. This is her first semester as an SI
for Financial Accounting. Along with Supplemental
Instruction, Kelsea tutors in the areas of her major and minor, as well. When not on campus, she can be found working at the Washington School of Ballet, walking her dog Jake, or spending time with friends.

Amy

Amy is a junior, majoring in Accounting and minoring
in Political Science. This is her first semester as a
Supplemental Instruction Leader for Financial Accounting.
She is from Los Angeles, CA. During her free time, she likes to cook and explore new restaurants and running trails. On campus, in addition to being an SI leader, she is involved in the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Phi Mu Sorority.

Charles

Charles Merrick is a Junior Economics Major in the College of
Arts and Sciences, from Great Britain. Charles is willing to
supply all demand in the market for words that sound cooler
in a British accent and enjoys public speaking, acting, and being paid to attend Economics classes. This semester, he is a Supplemental Instruction Leader for Microeconomics, after having supported a Macroeconomics course in Spring 2012. Charles enjoys getting involved in plays and working on ATV.

Dhanesh

Dhanesh is a sophomore from Chester Springs, PA planning
to graduate in May 2015. He is majoring in physics
and math with the intention to go to grad school for physics
and astronomy. Joining the SI team during the Fall of 2012, he works with the first two calculus based general physics courses. His love of the subject along with his relaxed attitude allows him to connect with the class and give them useful advice. In his spare time, he enjoys going to concerts, playing tennis and ultimate frisbee. He also works part time as a valet parker.

Becky

Becky is a currently sophomore in the College of Arts and
Sciences with a major in Economics and a minor in Spanish.
Because of her love of mathematics, she became a
Supplemental Instruction Leader this semester for Basic Statistics. Outside of being an SI Leader, she is secretary and co-fundraising chair of the AU Women's Club Volleyball team. For fun, Becky loves playing sports and exploring around DC.

Hannah

Hannah is currently a Sophomore, studying Physics and
Japanese. She has been a lifelong lover of stars and plans
on pursuing a career in astrophysics in Japan. Her passion for
astronomy and her experiences as the Physics Department's Lab Technician has prepared her to be a capable SI leader for Astronomy.

Alan

Alan is a sophomore double majoring in Film and Business
Administration. His combination of business and film
experience has given him an inside perspective of the
unique business model of Hollywood. Alan has had experiences teaching in the past, as a math tutor in high school, and as a youth dodgeball coach at his local YMCA. He first became an SI in Spring of 2013, for Managerial Accounting. In his SI sessions, Alan likes using metaphors and odd movie-based analogies. He hopes to become an independent writer and director for feature films.

Scott

Scott is a junior Biology major, and plans, like many other Biology majors, to go to medical school. Scott is a true believer in the interdisciplinary nature of science, and so he is excited to spend his first semester as an SI helping students learn Physics. Scott hopes his passion for both Biology and Physics will help him highlight the ways in which Physics is important to real applications that interest students.

Christy

Christy is currently a sophomore, planning to graduate in May 2015 and sit for the CPA. As an Accounting major she has taken many Kogod courses and has honed her skills, especially in Managerial Accounting. This is her first semester working as an SI leader. After graduation, Christy plans on sitting for the CPA and hopefully working at one of the Big Four Accounting Firms. She loves Accounting and is excited to be able to share those experiences with the students this semester.

John

John is currently a Junior planning to graduate in May 2014. As a student in Kogod, pursuing a BSA, his area of study helps him take advantage of strong financial analytical skills to help improve the business world. As his first semester working as an SI (spring 2013) for Managerial Accounting, he is utilizing personal experience from work as a personal trainer and school programs like Washington Initiative to help motivate and aid his fellow students. John is currently looking to work for an accounting and consulting firm; as his main goal is to help companies develop and implement better cost management strategies. He plans to obtain his CPA in 2015. His main interests are sports, fitness education, and technology startups.
