Commencement at American University
All American University Commencement ceremonies take place in Bender Arena and will be live-streamed. Each ceremony lasts approximately two to two and a half hours. Ceremonies include both undergraduate and graduate students for each school.

Please note: Spring Commencement ceremonies are typically held on the second weekend in May. However, the exact dates for this year are still to be determined and will be announced once finalized.
Commencement Celebrations
American University’s Shared Interest Commencement Celebrations recognize the academic achievements and unique identities of our graduating students and welcome them into the AU Alumni Shared Interest community. These celebrations provide an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments, connect with peers, and establish lifelong ties to the AU community. They highlight the richness of our shared experiences and the promise of future success.
