Geothermal Construction Work Continues March 29, 2024
Geothermal construction work at the future site of the Alan and Amy Meltzer Center for Athletic Performance is still continuing over the next few weeks. Please see additional updates below:
- Construction Activity
- Geothermal work is ongoing as originally scheduled. Work will begin to move more internal to AU’s campus as it progresses.
- Drilling rigs and other supporting equipment will still be operating on the site.
- Construction Schedule
- The normal construction work week is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Work may also be conducted on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., but only if needed to maintain the project schedule. No construction activity will occur on Sundays.
- AU will make good faith efforts to limit the noisiest and most disruptive work to between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays.
- This portion of the project is still anticipated to be completed mid-to-late May 2024.
- Upcoming Construction
- Demolition of the current Sports Center Annex (SCAN) building is expected to occur in the first week of April.
- This process will take approximately 2 weeks to complete.
- No major noise or large amounts of dust are anticipated.
All appropriate safety and other control measures will be in place during the work.
As a reminder, the neighborhood access gate located at the intersection of University Avenue and Rodman Street, NW is closed to prevent access to the construction area. Community members can still utilize the gate at the intersection of University Avenue and Quebec Street to access campus.
