Transfer Transitions

Transfer Transitions is American University's orientation program for students who are transferring to AU in the fall semester, and is designed to welcome you and your guests to campus. During the one-day program you will meet with academic units and learn basic information about AU's distinctive services and resources, all while getting to know peers who are transferring with you. Your orientation group will be led by current AU students who will help you make connections and get a better understanding of life at AU. In addition to learning more about academics, you will learn your way around campus, take your AU ID Card picture, and much much more. By the time you leave Transfer Transitions you will be well on your way to success!

Parents and families are welcome to register to attend, and have a similar schedule. We can't wait to see you at one of our Transfer Transitions programs!

Transfer Transitions Program Fees

  • $65 per student
  • $65 per family member (over the age of 12)
  • $35 per family member (under the age of 12)

Class Registration

Your AU school or college will mail or email you information about registering for classes and completing other important tasks. If you do not receive information, please contact the advising office of the school or college that houses your intended major. Return registration materials as directed as quickly as possible to facilitate course registration.

Given the number and complexity of requirements in many majors, it is important to create an academic plan with your advisor. They will help you develop your interests and goals, review the transfer credits you have been awarded, and register you for your first semester classes.

Note that you won't register for classes during orientation. Your advisor will review your proposed course selection for your fall 2018 classes, and-if appropriate-clear you to register. You'll then sign up for your courses using the online AU Registration System. During the Academic Advising session at orientation, an advisor will confirm your course registration and give you a final copy of your class schedule.
