Health & Safety Guidelines

Face coverings (masks)

During Move-In: Everyone present on campus must wear face coverings, regardless of vaccination status.

After Move-In, here are the details:

  • Community spaces (residence halls, classrooms, Mary Graydon, etc.) Required. In keeping with the Order of the Mayor of Washington, DC, all individuals must currently mask indoors, regardless of vaccine status, with a few limited exceptions (such as actively eating or drinking, teaching, or when alone in an office.)
  • Residence Hall rooms or apartments: Not required. A room in a residence hall, or a private apartment, is your own space. You and your roommates do not need to mask, although individuals who prefer to wear masks when in their private spaces with others are encouraged to do so.
  • Outdoors: Not required, unless in a group of 25 or more.

If You Are Partially Vaccinated or Unvaccinated: Additional Requirements

Twice weekly testing: Test for COVID-19 at the Student Health Center twice weekly, until fully vaccinated. (See more information below.)

Daily health screening: Submit the daily screening form on any day you will be on campus. For residential students, that is daily.

Post-arrival 7-day quarantine if arriving from outside of Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia. (See more information below.)

Post-Arrival 7-Day Quarantine

Partially vaccinated and unvaccinated students who arrive from outside Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia must self-quarantine in their residence for seven days while testing for COVID-19.

  • Quarantine:
    • Residential / university housing students must self-quarantine in their residence hall rooms. This means remaining in your room for seven days, except for clear necessities such as picking up food and COVID testing. Students in quarantine may participate virtually in convocation and Sophomore welcome through live stream and participate in virtual activities during All-American Welcome. Roommates of self-quarantined students have no added restrictions.
    • Off-campus students must self-quarantine at their residence. Remain in your home or apartment except for essential trips, such as COVID testing. You may not come to campus during this period, except for a COVID test. Roommates have no added restrictions.
  • Notify your professors that you are self-quarantined. They will work with you on a short-term basis to allow you to complete classwork while self-quarantined.
  • Test for COVID-19 3-5 days into your self-quarantine period.
    • Testing is available on campus, and you may come to campus for COVID testing only. (Remember: Partially or unvaccinated students must test twice weekly on campus anyway.)
    • If the test is negative, you may leave self-quarantine after completing the 7-day period and be present on campus, following protocols for unvaccinated students until fully vaccinated.
  • Roommates of self-quarantined students are not restricted. The post-arrival quarantine is NOT isolation. Roommates do not need to follow special precautions, unless they prefer to do so.

Wireless: The network is called eagle-secure. We have extensive wireless coverage, but please be aware that you may temporarily lose connection to eagle-secure while walking outside from one location to another.

In person: The Technology Support Desk is on the first floor of the Bender Library and is open every weekday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for both drop-in and booked appointments. You can book an OIT Walk-Up Experience in the self-service portal.

They'll help get your laptop, smartphone, or other devices connected; answer your questions, troubleshoot problems, clean viruses, help you enroll in DUO and more. They'll help with almost everything to do with technology, although they're not authorized to perform hardware repairs. Tip: In case OIT needs to reset your password, have your AU ID ready.

To reach support services for AU-managed technology or tools:
