This page will guide you through your next steps as you prepare to join the Washington Semester Program in Washington, D.C.

Check your new student email regularly for important updates about your arrival in DC. The best thing to do right now is to download the Microsoft Outlook App on your mobile and turn on notifications. That way you won't miss a beat!

Admitted Student Checklists

  1. Accept your offer and enroll

    Available Now

    To enroll in the Washington Semester Program, please submit your enrollment deposit of $400 online:

    • Create your myau.american.edu account using your AU ID, which can be found in your acceptance email.
    • Log into Eagle Finance with your myAU username and password to pay your non-refundable deposit by e-check or credit card.


    Please note that this deposit is nonrefundable and will be held in your student account to be credited toward your tuition.

  2. International Students Only

    Initiate the process of requesting your J-1 visa
    Available Now
     

    To proceed with the immigration process, submit the following via the application portal:

    • A copy of your passport’s biological page
    • An official bank letter stating you have the finances needed for your semester
    • A completed, signed, and dated CFIS form

  3. Begin your internship search

  4. Complete Housing Survey

  6. Register for disability accomodations (if needed)

    Available After Submitting Deposit
    Students who are new to American University must register with the Academic Support and Access Center (ASAC) by submitting documentation and completing the three-step process outlined on their website.

  7. Submit Immunization Form

    To Enroll: Fill out this AU form
    Use your AU ID # and PW to login

    OR

    Waive AU Helath insurance

    You can only waive the insurance after you are registered in 12+ credits and the Health Insurance charge appears on your student account.

    Students from International Schools

    All students from international schools are required to enroll in AU's health insurance during their semester(s) in the Washington Semester Program. You will automatically be enrolled in AU health insurance after you are registered for courses by your academic advisor.

  10. Review and/or settle your AU student account

    Confirm your financial aid, billing, and payment arrangements with AU and your home school.

  13. Attend Virtual Internship Fair

    Mon, Aug 28, 9:30 AM – Noon (time subject to change)

  14. Pay your bill

    Available late September

    How and to whom you pay your AU bill is dependent on our arrangement with your homeschool. Eagle Service may not reflect the correct amount until a later date when everything is finalized. Check in with the WSP Team for specifics on your account.

  15. Add/Drop Course Deadline

    Available after submission of pre-registration form

    Email your Academic Advisor to request any needed changes to your course registration.

    September 11 is the last day to add or drop an elective course or research project. Courses dropped after Sept 11 will be recorded with a “W” on your AU transcript.

  16. Confirm Your Internship + Submit the Experiential Learning Form (ELF)

    Complete the ELF after you confirm an internship
    (within the first 2 weeks of the semester)

    You may not begin your academic training until you have received an amended DS-2019 from AU’s Office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS).

    Available after submission of pre-registration form
    Email the WSP Team  to request any necessary changes to your registration. Monday, January 30th is the last day to add or drop an elective course or research project. Courses dropped after January 30th will be recorded with a “W” on your AU transcript.

  17. Submit the Experiential Learning Form (ELF) & begin your practicum

    Complete this after you confirm an academic training placement
    Begin your academic training and complete the ELF in the Internship Web within the first 2.5 weeks of the semester.
