USFP in Action
USFP students are active, engaged citizens who want to play a role in advancing and securing America’s interests. They believe that America should be a force for good in the world, and want to help ensure that through sound foreign policy, diplomacy, and security policy.
A look at some of the ways you can get involved on campus.
U.S. Foreign Policy Association (USFPA)
The USFPA's goals are to increase dialog on relevant foreign policy issues, build a community, and expand the career options of students in the US Foreign Policy and National Security graduate program, Undergraduates in the US Foreign Policy concentration, and all other students interested in foreign policy issues.
In order to achieve these goals, the USFPA sponsors and co-sponsors three types of events:
- Career Events - Talks and panel discussions from professionals who have careers related to foreign policy.
- Foreign Policy Talks/Panel Discussions - Each semester the USFPA is involved in a variety of events related to a broad range of foreign policy topics.
- Social Events - Throughout the school year the USFPA offers several events geared towards increasing a sense of community amongst fellow students who are interested in foreign policy. These events have included social hours as well as a student/faculty barbecue.
Contact USFPA at firstname.lastname@example.org or at the USFPA Facebook page.
Graduate Student Council
The SIS Graduate Student Council (GSC) is committed to providing professional development, advocating for graduate students, and building a school-wide community. GSC provides opportunities to graduate students to plan and participate in social and professional development events, serve on school committees, advocate for themselves and their peers, and generally have their voices heard in the SIS administration. With a team of senators representing the various programs at the School of International Service and a dedicated Executive Council, the GSC strives to be a leader both inside and outside American University. Contact the GSC at email@example.com
The U.S. Foreign Policy and National Security Program prides itself on bringing diverse and fascinating speakers to campus to discuss issues in foreign policy.
