Bio: Altheria Caldera is Senior Professorial Lecturer in the School of Education at American University. Her research and scholarship focus on ways educators can advance racial equity in schools. Specific areas of interest include language and literacy, Black girlhood, and equitable educational policies. She is a former middle school English/Language Arts/Reading teacher with twenty-five years of experience in secondary and post-secondary education. Altheria is a proud first-generation college graduate.
