Welcome to Student Affairs A Message from the Vice Provost

Eagles,

It is a privilege to serve a community of students whose passion, creativity, and commitment to making a difference inspire me every day.

At American University, learning happens everywhere. It happens in classrooms and residence halls, through student organizations and leadership experiences, in moments of service, dialogue, discovery, and connection. Every day, students across our campus are exploring new ideas, building community, advocating for change, and preparing to lead lives of purpose and impact.

The Division of Student Affairs exists to support and champion your success. Through our programs, services, and partnerships across the university, we strive to create an environment where every student feels a sense of belonging, has opportunities to thrive, and is empowered to reach their fullest potential. Whether you are seeking support, pursuing leadership opportunities, exploring your identity, serving the community, or simply looking for ways to connect, we are here to help you make the most of your experience at AU.

American University is a community of changemakers. We are strengthened by our diverse experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds, and we are united by a shared commitment to creating a more just, inclusive, and hopeful future. My hope is that during your time here, you will challenge yourself to grow, build meaningful relationships, and embrace the opportunities that will shape not only your education, but the person you are becoming.

The friendships you form, the lessons you learn, and the impact you make as a student will remain with you long after graduation. Student Affairs is honored to be part of that journey.

Together, we are building a student experience where every Eagle can belong, thrive, lead, and make a lasting impact.

With Eagle Pride,

Dayne Hutchinson signatureDayne Hutchinson, PhD
