Spring 2019: Invest in Your Success Program

Monthly Workshops Begin January 2019

Looking for additional computer skills to add to your resume? The Office of Information Technology is offering a series of workshops for the Invest in Your Success program. The IIYS program offers non-credit workshops developed specifically for American University's students. This program maximizes students’ success by teaching the core technology skills needed to thrive in an office environment.

Workshops are offered, on a rotating basis, during the last 2 weeks of each month, from 3:15pm -> 4:30pm, and are designed to quickly get you up-to-speed on the must-know features of the Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Suite and Adobe Photoshop.

All workshops will be held in the OIT Training Room, located on the south side of Anderson Hall. There is no fee for training, but space is limited and registration is required. Click here to register.

Workshops include:

Do you need to know the basics of Excel 2016 for an internship, job interview, or for a class? During this workshop, you will learn the Excel 2016 basics plus tips to make your work in Excel more efficient. We’ll create a workbook that uses conditional formatting, relative and absolute references in formulas, visually dynamic formatting, and create a chart to represent data.

Do you need to organize and summarize data sets in Excel? This workshop will demonstrate how to sort and filter data sets, create pivot tables, and take advantage of useful data ribbon features including data validation.

Writing a resume or cover letter; creating a departmental document? This workshop is for you! Learn how to save time by using templates, modify page layouts, add page/section/column breaks, create lists with bullets and numbers, format pictures/text/shapes and more.

Do you wish your images looked more professional? Adobe Photoshop can be a bit intimidating for a beginner, but it doesn't have to be. In this workshop, you will edit images using color fundamentals, selection tools, layers, filters, and text.

PowerPoint allows you to combine text, pictures, graphics, video/audio clips, web pages and more to create compelling presentations. This workshop covers topics such as choosing a design template, creating slides, adding animation, running a presentation and more.

Precisely lay out and style text/pictures/borders/calendars, and more. Create everything from labels to flyers to tri-fold brochures using Publisher’s wide range of pre-designed templates.
