Over the past two years, AU has worked closely with the AU Neighborhood Partnership and a wide range of campus and community stakeholders to gather input and feedback on concepts and priorities considered by AU as part of its comprehensive campus planning process. We are proud of the dedicated and collaborative work that resulted in the Proposed 2021 Campus Plan, and in the wide range of support it has garnered – including strong endorsements from both ANC3D and ANC3E. 

AU and the AU Neighborhood Partnership encourage all interested stakeholders (including members of the AU community, neighbors, and friends of the university) to review the Proposed 2021 Campus Plan and show their support for the Plan and the continued collaborative effort that will foster its implementation over the next ten years.

How to Support the 2021 Campus Plan

The DC Zoning Commission will hold public hearings on the Proposed 2021 Campus Plan on March 22 and 29. Here’s how you can demonstrate your support of the Campus Plan:

• Submit a letter of support for the Campus Plan below. These letters of support will be compiled by AU and submitted to the Zoning Commission in advance of the Campus Plan hearings and be made part of the official zoning case record. 
• Submit your letter directly to the Zoning Commission. If you would prefer to submit your statement directly, please refer to the DC Office of Zoning's instructions for submitting written testimony. Please indicate “AU Campus Plan: Zoning Commission Case No. 20-31” to ensure that your submission is entered into the docket for the AU Campus Plan. These statements may be submitted any time prior to the end of the public hearings.
• Host a virtual information session for your friends and neighbors who may be interested in learning more about the Proposed 2021 Campus Plan. Contact Maria Barry at mariab@american.edu for more information and helpful meeting presentation materials.

Campus Plan Resources

AU’s Campus Plan website includes numerous informative resources including the Proposed Campus Plan, the Comprehensive Transportation Review (CTR), progress drafts and preliminary framework documents, FAQs, and responses to questions submitted on the Community Input Portal, which includes community feedback and responses collected throughout the planning process. In addition, the Campus Plan Fact Sheet provides a brief overview of the Plan, organized by topic areas so that you can quickly focus on the issues that are most important to you.
