First-Generation Proud

Veronica Pacheco, SIS/BA ‘22
It’s great to realize I’m capable of more than I think.
As a first-gen student, my parents didn’t know what to expect from the college experience, so I had to learn about the higher ed environment and the different resources on campus. Every student has to find their way during their first year, and it’s challenging being in charge of your own routine for the first time.
I’ve learned how to take initiative to seek out resources–like the Center for Diversity and Inclusion and the Career Center–and make my own decisions. It’s made me more independent and aware of my choices.
