Thank you for your interest in the American University Counseling Center Postdoctoral Fellowship!
The program offers the fellow the opportunity to engage in a wide range of clinical and professional activities, including individual and group therapy, initial consultation assessments, urgent care (triage) assessment and intervention, outreach and consultation, supervision of trainees, and professional development trainings. Through such provision of services, the fellow promotes the academic, social, and emotional wellbeing of students and the AU campus community.
The fellow receives specialty training in the many aspects of higher education mental health and university counseling center work. Additionally, the fellow has the opportunity to further develop and enhance their leadership skills, including in the areas of clinical services system management, training program management, and facilitation of outreach programming requests.
Postdoctoral fellows will receive weekly supervision, provided by licensed psychologists, in individual and group counseling, initial consultation and urgent care assessments, and supervision. The training staff operate from theoretically integrative, multiculturally-informed treatment approaches with a shared appreciation for relational work with clients. Supervising staff members are trained in a variety of different treatment approaches including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, among others.
