Thank you for your interest in the American University's Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services Post MSW Fellowship!
The fellowship is a one-year, full-time position at the Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services. The program offers the fellow the opportunity to engage in a wide range of clinical and professional activities, including individual and group therapy, initial consultation assessments, outreach and consultation, and professional development trainings. Through such provision of services, the fellow promotes the academic, social, and emotional wellbeing of students and the AU campus community.
The fellow receives specialty training in the many aspects of higher education mental health and university Well-Being Center work. Additionally, the fellow has the opportunity to further develop and enhance their leadership skills, including in the areas of clinical services system management, research and education, and facilitation of outreach programming.
Post MSW fellows will receive weekly supervision, provided by licensed social workers, licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, and/or psychologists. Supervision will be centered on the provision of individual and group counseling, initial consultation and crisis assessments, and professional development. The training staff operate from theoretically integrative, multiculturally-informed treatment approaches with a shared appreciation for relational work with clients. Supervising staff members are trained in a variety of different treatment approaches including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, among others.
Candidates interested in the Post MSW fellowship must have attended an accredited social work program (accredited by the Council of Social Work Education), successfully passed the national examination, as sponsored by the Association of Social Work Boards, and registered as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) by the start date of the fellowship.
The full-time post MSW fellowship offers a competitive salary ($50,000/year) plus benefits.
