Early Warning Notifications / Care Network

Please remind faculty to provide feedback on students’ performance early in the semester. Graded feedback is preferred. If students are not performing at an expected level, or if the instructor has concerns about a student’s academic performance, please encourage the instructor to submit an early warning notice from the myAU portal under Academics / Eagle Service – Early Warning Notification. Early Warning notifications go to the student and to that student’s academic advisor.

If faculty or staff identify a student who appears to be struggling with adjustment, mental health, or medical concerns, please use the Care Network to submit concerns to the Office of the Dean of Students which facilitates supportive intervention for students. The Care Network is not tied to the conduct process, so submitting a Care Report will not imply disciplinary action. Faculty and staff can access the Care Network via the myAU portal under Life @ AU / “CareNetwork: Express Concern about a Student.”

Spring 2019 Final Exams

Please request faculty to email academic_scheduling@american.edu if they are not holding a final exam, so that the classroom space can be released for other final exam scheduling purposes. Releasing classroom space during the final exam period supports the final exam scheduling process for non-standard classes not following approved teaching periods. The non-standard final exam schedule will be available on the Office of the University Registrar website by late February 2019.

Last semester the university established a final exam policy, please review it and share it with your faculty. This policy is informative and addresses frequently asked questions related to exam conflicts, testing accommodations and expectations during the final exam period.

Summer/Fall 2019 Academic Scheduling Update

All Fall 2019 schedules have been returned and Summer 2019 will be returned shortly. Please submit additional revisions via Schedule of Classes Change Forms as soon as possible. The Summer and Fall 2019 class schedules will be published on Monday, March 4, 2019.

Future Academic Schedule Development (ASD) Cycles

Spring 2020: June 10 – June 21, 2019
Fall 2020: November 11 – November 22, 2019

During this period, academic schedulers submit draft schedules in the Campus Planning Interface (CPI).

Planning for these terms should begin as soon as possible to support the scheduling process – including any planned curriculum changes. Planning, initiating and completing curriculum changes early enables the possibility of these changes (Ex: new courses, course changes) being available for academic schedulers at the point they are entering schedules into the CPI.

Registration for Summer 2019 and Fall 2019

The Summer and Fall 2019 class schedules will be published on Monday, March 4, 2019. This is the time when students will be able to begin planning their summer and fall classes using scheduled section information via Eagle Service.

Registration dates have been updated on the Registrar's website (http://www.american.edu/provost/registrar/studentservices/Registration-Dates.cfm). Registration for Summer will begin on Monday, March 25, 2019. All students may begin registering for summer classes on that date; there are no registration appointment times for summer.

Priority registration for Fall 2019 will begin on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at 7:00 am. Students will be assigned a registration start time for Fall priority registration. Once the student’s registration start time begins, that student is able to use the registration system through the end of the Drop/Add period in Fall 2019. Additional communications about priority registration will follow closer to the end of March.

Curriculog and Deadlines for Inclusion in the 2019-2020 University Catalog

Curriculog (http://american.curriculog.com) is the electronic curriculum management system in use across the university. Please monitor your e-mail for notifications from Curriculog and be sure to take action required of you on any proposals in a timely manner. Anyone can review the status of any curriculum proposal in the Curriculog system. For access and training on Curriculog, please contact curriculum_services@american.edu.

The 2019-2020 University Catalog will be published on Thursday, June 27, 2019. Fully approved curriculum changes must be received by the OUR by May 31, 2019 in order to be included in the 2019-2020 Catalog.

The actual deadline for proposal submission and processing is likely much earlier, especially if the proposal needs Board of Trustees approval. The Board of Trustees meets on May 16-17, 2019, and any business to be considered by the Board must be compiled by April 12, 2019. Curriculum proposals must be submitted to UGC/GCC by March 5, 2019 to ensure inclusion in the Board Book. The message here is: do not delay on new program proposals.
