Competition Info William K. Reilly Fund

The Reilly Environmental Leadership Award is selected every spring by a five-member committee which starts generating nominations (including self-nominations) on November 15. The awardees are recognized with a certificate and a plaque at a spring reception. The CEP defrays costs of attendance for recipients coming from out of town for the reception.

The CEP awards three Reilly Fellowships $1500 every spring. This competition is held annually for undergraduate and MA students with a demonstrated commitment to a career in climate, energy, and environmental politics. Candidates should submit a 500-word statement of interest and a recommendation from an SPA professor. While these fellowships are primarily for graduate students, exceptional SPA undergraduates may also apply in the February before their final year (this is February of the junior year for four-year students).

The CEP also awards two Reilly Internships every spring; these are tenable for 14 weeks at 15 hours of DC minimum wage for placement at government and non-governmental organizations in the following summer or fall. The CEP helps interns find placement in organizations where they will learn and thrive. These internships are also for returning students (undergraduates in their third year and Masters’ students in their first year). Successful candidates must show a demonstrated interested in a career in climate, energy, and environmental politics. Candidates should submit a resume, a 500-word statement of interest by Februrary 1 and a recommendation from an SPA professor.
