The Well-Being Corner is open to all AU students! It is a space designed for the multifaceted ways in which students care for their minds and bodies. Through health promotion programs, interactive workshops and presentations, and wellness-focused spaces geared towards wellness, rest and recovery, students are invited to engage their well-being in ways that feel personal and meaningful for them. All activities, including psychoeducation and experiential learning events, must engage students in health promoting strategies. The space is open to the American University community for programs and learning opportunities. Reservations must be made directly with the Center for Well-Being ([email protected]) and approved based on their wellness focus and availability of spaces.
Arcade Alley
Arcade Alley is a designated gaming area. This space is designed for play, entertainment, and restorative leisure. It offers a fun way to recharge in either a solitary or social way, promoting stress relief and overall balance through low-pressure play.
The Living Room
The Living Room is designed for play and social engagement through games and shared activities. The name “The Living Room” represents a place for gathering in a space of familiarity and belonging. It is designed to provide an outlet for students to engage in positive social interaction and the possibility of screen-free recreation.
Echo Box
The Echo Box is a space where voices are shared, heard, and valued. It is designed for creative expression, education, and social engagement. It is called an Echo Box to reflect that our contributions matter and can be amplified in many ways. Through storytelling, dialogue, performances, and engaging community activities, this space gives voice in a supportive environment.
Serenity Lounge
The Serenity Lounge is a place for rest, relaxation, and stress relief through the use of nap pods and massage chairs. This is a calm environment where entrants can pause and recharge.
Zen Den
The Zen Den is designed for relaxation, movement, rest, and education. Through yoga, stretching, mindful movement, meditation, educational experiences (e.g., stress management workshops), and related practices, this space offers opportunities for self-awareness, stress reduction, and restoration. Zen is associated with calm while Den suggests a protected environment. Unless indicated by a special event, this is a quiet zone.
