Confidential Resources & Support Confidential resources and independent community-based resources
If you have experienced sexual misconduct, relationship violence, stalking, discrimination, harassment, or another related concern, confidential support is available.
Confidential resources can provide a safe space to talk about what happened, explore your options, and receive support without automatically initiating a University investigation or conduct process. You can seek support even if you are not ready to report.
This page provides information about confidential campus resources and independent community-based resources available to students, employees, and community members.
Depending on the resource, confidential support may include:
-
Emotional and mental health support
-
Medical care and referrals
-
Advocacy and safety planning
-
Exploring reporting options
-
Academic, housing, or workplace support
-
Legal information and assistance
-
Crisis intervention
-
Medical forensic examinations
Confidentiality practices and reporting obligations vary by resource. Before sharing information, you can ask a provider about what they can keep confidential and whether there are circumstances in which they may be required to share information.
Community-based resources operate independently from American University. You may contact these organizations directly for support, regardless of whether you report to the University or law enforcement
