Winter Break Construction and Facilities Projects

During American University’s upcoming winter break, progress will continue to be made on a number of capital projects throughout campus. The university scheduled this work during the break in order to continue to meet all deadlines. Some of the projects were scheduled specifically during the closing to reduce disruption to the community, as they will take place in high pedestrian and vehicular traffic areas.

Work will include:

  • Kerwin Hall – Rooms 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 302 and 303 – Classroom upgrades with patching of walls, painting, and whiteboard installation. Work will take place December 26 through January 13 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
  • Letts, Anderson, Centennial Hall – Pest services remediation work. Innovative Pest Management along with Facilities Management staff will continue an intensive inspection of all resident rooms to identify and treat pest-related issues. Work will take place December 17 through January 4 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
  • Kreeger – Room G-02 – Piping will be installed December 26 through January 2 between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily.
  • McDowell – Terrace Level – Pipe work will take place December 26 through January 2 between 5 a.m. – 1 p.m. daily.
  • Quad, Letts Road, Watkins Paths – Pipe work and restoration will take place December 26 through January 2 between 5 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Hall of Science – Roadways on the north, south, and east sides – Installation of underground utilities including water and telecom duct banks. There will be periodic road closures (one lane always will remain open with flaggers, as needed) December 17 through January 11 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Excavation for telecom duct bank will extend from the Hall of Science site to the northeast corner of Asbury.
  • Anderson & Centennial Halls – Window shades will be replaced in various student rooms December 17 through Dec 31 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
