AU Memo Letterhead

Dear AU community,

Next week marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001. We remember the lives lost and honor the survivors, first responders, families, and communities forever changed by that day.

Many AU faculty, staff, students, and alumni were personally impacted by the 9/11 attacks. Alumni who died on that day are remembered through a memorial on our campus. For others, 9/11 is an event encountered through classrooms, media, and public memory. Its impact, however, continues to shape our country, our world, and many of the issues we study, teach, research, and discuss today.

Throughout the week, our community will honor those affected by the attacks, examine the complex legacy of the past 25 years, and come together in service. Programs include a conversation on leadership, terrorism, and democratic resilience; an interfaith service of remembrance; a discussion examining the human and societal consequences of the post 9/11 wars; and opportunities for community service and reflection.

We invite students, faculty, staff, and alumni to participate in a way that is meaningful to them, whether by attending a program, joining a moment of reflection, engaging in conversation, learning more about the enduring impact of 9/11, or serving alongside fellow members of the AU community.

Please visit the September 11: 25 Years Later webpage for the full schedule of events, locations, and additional information.

With remembrance and resolve,
