Subject:
Interim Dean, Kogod School of Business

Many thanks to all of you who met with our Kogod dean candidates throughout the campus visit process. All of our candidates remarked to me on how deeply and thoughtfully the Kogod community and campus leadership engaged with them in their time here.

While we have made considerable progress on the search, the remaining work will take us beyond a July 1 start date for a new dean. I am pleased to share the news that Parthiban David has agreed to step into the interim role from July 1 through August 15.  We expect to announce Kogod’s new dean by mid-July.

Parthiban has held the position of Senior Associate Dean since July 2020 and also serves as Collins Chair and Professor of Management. A key member of the Kogod leadership team, he manages academic affairs for the school, including the appointment, reappointment, and tenure processes. Prior to assuming his current role, Parthiban was chair of the Department of Management from 2017–2020. He joined American University in 2009 after serving on the faculty at the University of Oklahoma, the University of Notre Dame, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.  He teaches strategic management and his research studies the relationship between corporate governance, corporate strategy, and firm performance as well as the governance role of financial reporting.

In addition to supporting the Kogod community, Parthiban has established strong relationships with faculty and staff across campus.  He is a member of the Middle States Self-Study Scholarship Subcommittee and participated in the Term Faculty Reappointment Task Force during the 2021–2022 academic year.  Beyond the university, he serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management and Governance as well as on the International Advisory Board of the Journal of Enterprising Culture.

Please join me in thanking Parthiban for his dedication to Kogod and to American University!
