Between 1955 and 1959, campus residence halls expanded rapidly to accommodate the growing student population. In 1959, Nebraska Hall opened. In the 1980s, Nebraska Hall saw its first renovation. During the summer of 2013, Nebraska Hall received another update, as well as an addition to the original building.
Nebraska Hall is American University's first apartment-style residence hall. Each apartment was designed with a common kitchen, bathroom, and living room shared by 4, 3, or 2 single bedrooms. Each bedroom is furnished with a full-sized bed. The Resident Assistants in Nebraska Hall work closely with their Community Director to create a unique and involved apartment community.
