Is there help for finding off-campus housing?
HRL provides several off-campus resources and services, including a video guide to moving off campus and an off-campus posting tool.
What are my next steps?
I don't have a room but I want to live on-campus. What should I do?
While you aren't guaranteed housing, you can browse open rooms in the AU Housing Portal at any time on the the Room Selection page. If you find a room you'd like to live in, you can simply select the space.
Please be aware:
- On-campus spaces can open at any time. As soon as a student cancels, their room will be available for others to select. However, we don't encourage constantly checking the Housing Portal for open spaces. Below are a list of days/times we expect most cancellations to be submitted.
- We don't expect multiple spaces in one room to open. This is possible, but not likely. Given this, it's best to plan to select on your own but if you prefer to select as a group you must create a group before trying to select. You can later break your group apart if multiple spaces aren't available.
I have a room currently selected, but am considering changing rooms. What can I do?
You can browse open rooms in the AU Housing Portal through the Application Status page. If you find a room you prefer, you can simply select and your previous room will be available to other students to select.
When does HRL expect open spaces to appear in the AU Housing Portal?
On-campus spaces can open at any time. As soon as a student cancels, their room will be available for others to select.
We do expect most cancellations to be submitted in advance of cancellation fee increases on or after the time we send reminder emails (see schedule below).
Here is when we'll send reminder emails about cancellation fees:
- Thursday, March 24 at 3pm ET in advance of fees being in effect starting Saturday, March 26th.
- Wednesday, April 27 at 3pm ET in advance of fees increasing on May 1
- Friday, May 27 at 3pm ET in advance of fees increasing on June 1
- Monday, June 27 at 3pm ET in advance of fees increasing on July 1
- Wednesday, July 27 at 3pm ET in advance of fees increasing on August 1
I currently have a room selected but don't want to live in this room next year. What should I do?
You have 2 options:
- Please be aware of upcoming cancellation fees that apply to students with a selected room. If you won't live in your selected space we encourage you to cancel now to avoid fees. However, you will lose your guarantee for on-campus housing upon cancelling.
- You can browse open rooms in the AU Housing Portal through the Application Status page. If you find a room you prefer, you can simply select and your previous room will be available to other students to select.
I currently have a room and want to remain in it. What should I do?
You don't need to do anything. Simply look for email updates from HRL over the summer so you can prepare for move-in.
