DC Reads

DC Reads is an education advocacy program which places American University undergraduate and graduate students within community based organizations in DC public schools supporting K-8th grade youth education.

While tutoring and mentoring are at the center of the DC reads experience, we aim to facilitate the development of American University students as education advocates in communities locally, nationally, and internationally.

DC Reads hires new federal work-study and volunteers at the beginning of the Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters to become Education Advocates. Students who are new to DC Reads must complete our current application on GivePulse. Students who worked with DC Reads in the past must re-apply on GivePulse by completing the returning Education Advocate application.
