For returning tutors:

  1. Fill out a returning tutor application in the EngageNet portal.
  2. Stop by the office to fill out any missing paperwork.
  3. Talk to your TL and set up your site schedule!

Step 1: Apply to be a tutor

Fill out an interest profile and a DC Reads New Student application on EngageNet.

Step 2: TB Test and Background Check

Submit negative TB test results to the Center for Community Engagement and Service. Some sites also require tutors to submit a DC Public Schools background check.

Step 3: Interview

Sign up for an interview with a DC Reads staff member by calling (202) 885-7378 or stopping by the Center for Community Engagement and Service in MGC 273.

Step 4: Submit Hiring Paperwork (FWS only)

Paperwork includes an I-9 and tax forms. The DC Reads Staff will help you fill out these forms, but you are responsible for returning them to us. Please bring acceptable IDs to training.

Step 5: Attend training

Training is on Saturdays from 9 am-4 pm for work study tutors and 10 am-4 pm for volunteer tutors.
