AU Memo Letterhead

Dear AU Community:

The horrific antisemitic violence at the Capital Jewish Museum last night tragically took the life of an alumni member of our AU community. Sarah Lynn Milgrim, SIS/MA ’23, graduated with a master’s degree in International Affairs. She received an award from the Mehdi Heravi Internship Fund in the School of International Service that supported her work as a Marketing and Development Intern at Tech2Peace in Tel Aviv, Israel during summer 2022. I am deeply saddened by this senseless act. Sarah was only beginning her life’s journey, and it is anguishing that her light was taken away because of hate.

Our hearts and condolences are with Sarah’s family and friends, as well as the loved ones of Yaron Lischinsky. The depraved violence is shocking and an affront to our shared humanity.

Antisemitism is a scourge that must be stopped. We are supporting our Jewish community and ensuring AU is a safe place for everyone, particularly in the wake of such horror. As our community remembers and mourns, let us lift each other up through our common bonds as Eagles.

Our campus resources are available to any community member needing support, including the Center for Well-Being and Psychological Services and the AU ProtoCall 24-hour support line (202-885-7979) for students and the BHS service for faculty and staff and their families. Anyone with safety concerns can contact AUPD at 202-885-2527 or via the Rave Guardian app.

In times of tragedy, we look for hope to sustain us. May Sarah be a beacon of hope for us all.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Alger
President
