MS Accounting Application Checklist

The following is the application checklist for Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) admissions consideration:

  • Online Application
  • Application fee of $100 USD
  • Current Resume
  • Personal Statement
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Transcripts from all universities attended
  • Valid GMAT/GRE score*
  • Valid TOEFL, IELTS, PTE score (international applicants only)

Applicants should also meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy*
Applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria may request GMAT/GRE waiver consideration. The request form is located in the online application system:

  • Minimum two years of professional accounting experience commensurate with CPA licensure
  • Valid CPA license
  • Undergraduate business degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA from an AACSB-accredited business school
  • Graduate degree with a minimum 3.3 GPA
  • Successful completion of CFA Level 1

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy*
Applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria may request GMAT/GRE waiver consideration. The request form is located in the online application system:

  • Minimum five years of work experience in the finance industry
  • Successful completion of CFA Level 1
  • Undergraduate business degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA from an AACSB-accredited business school
  • Graduate degree with a minimum 3.3 GPA from an AACSB-accredited business school

For Fall 2013 admission only, American University undergraduate students with a minimum 3.5 GPA in the following additional majors and minors may also request GMAT/GRE waiver consideration for application to the MS Finance and MS Real Estate programs.

Students with quantitatively rigorous majors or minors not listed here may contact the Kogod Admissions Office at kogodgrad@american.edu to inquire about waiver eligibility.

MS Marketing Application Checklist

The following is the application checklist for Master of Science in Marketing (MSMKTG) admissions consideration:

  • Transcripts from all universities attended
  • Valid GMAT/GRE score*
  • Valid TOEFL, IELTS, PTE score (international applicants only) 

Applicants should also meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Introductory or Marketing Principles course

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy*
Applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria may request GMAT/GRE waiver consideration. The request form is located in the online application system:

  • Minimum two years of full-time work experience in a field directly related to marketing
  • A minimum 3.3 GPA overall in a major related to Marketing or Communications

Interviews
Interviews are required for admission to the MSMKTG program. Evaluative interviews are reserved for candidates whose application has passed the initial screening phase of the application process. Candidates who are selected for an interview will be contacted to schedule an interview date and time. Interviews may be conducted in person or via telephone or Skype.


MS Real Estate Application Checklist

The following is the application checklist for Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) admissions consideration:

Applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria may request GMAT/GRE waiver consideration. Waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. The request form is located in the online application system:  

  • Minimum four years of full-time work experience in a field directly related to sustainability in the business, science, or policy context.
  • Undergraduate business degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA from an AACSB-accredited business school, or in an undergraduate major directly related to the subject matter of this degree program.
  • Previous graduate degree with a minimum 3.3 GPA in a related field.
