As an American University applicant, in order to better understand your artistic work, achievements, and background, AU Performing Arts has a supplemental system to gather specific information, to manage performing arts portfolios, and to request either an in-person or online audition for programs where an audition is required.   

For programs with scholarship funding, submission of your portfolio or audition will allow us to consider you for additional performing arts based funding alongside the University’s financial aid consideration.  

Performing Arts Degrees  

• Audio Production: portfolio submission is strongly suggested 
• Audio Technology: portfolio submission is strongly suggested 
• Dance: audition required (online submission or in-person)  
• Music: audition required (online submission or in-person)  
• Musical Theatre: audition required (online submission or in-person)  
• Popular Music Performance & Enterprise: audition required (online submission or in-person)  
• Theatre: audition required (online submission or in-person) 

Instructions

To submit supplemental materials including your portfolio, your online audition, or to select a live audition date, please complete the following:  

1. In the AU section of the Common Application, choose “yes” to submitting a portfolio to the Department of Performing Arts; 
2. Follow the instructions to access the portfolio site, SlideRoom, and complete the SlideRoom application for your intended major; 
3. After completing the Common Application and SlideRoom application, students should sign up for their program in the Future Eagle Portal through the Special Programs section so audition results can be viewed when decisions are released. SlideRoom is linked to your Common Application.
   
   Note: As portfolio programs, Audio Production and Audio Technology do not appear in the Special Programs area of the Future Eagle Portal.

While AU Performing Arts strongly encourages auditions and portfolio in advance of matriculation for the best admissions consideration, students may undertake required degree program audition after they begin their studies at American University.
