Summer 2023 Housing
Eligibility
Summer housing is available to returning AU undergraduate students who are:
- Registered as an undergraduate or graduate/professional student at the University for the Summer 2023 semester or
- Registered for the Fall 2023 semester and registered for on campus housing for the academic year 2023-2024

Location
Students are housed in either Centennial Hall (suite-style housing) or Frequency Apartment (apartment-style housing). Only double occupancy rooms will be offered.
All rooms are fully furnished. Additional information about each hall, including our virtual tours, can be found on each hall's webpage.

Summer Housing Rates 2023
Summer housing is billed to the student's Eagle Service account. A daily rate, with a minimum stay of 21 days (3 weeks), is used for summer housing.
All available rooms are designed for two residents.
Below is the daily rate for each summer room-type. To determine you cost for summer housing, please take the number of dates you requested (a minimum of 21 days) and multiply that by the daily rate for the room-type you selected.

Applying for Summer Housing
The summer housing application will open to undergraduate students on Thursday, April 6 at 12PM (noon).
- Apply by Sunday, April 16, and you will recieve your assignment on Thursday, April 20.
- If you apply after Sunday, April 16, we will make assignments each Monday on a rolling basis.
To apply, Log into your AU Housing Portal and select "Summer Student 2023" withing the Housing Application. There is no deadline to apply, but students should apply at minimally of 10 business days prior to their requested move-in.
The application will allow you to preference a hall (Centennial or Frequency) and dates of occupancy. A minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) is required when requesting summer housing.
Cancelling Summer Housing
To cancel, please email housing@american.edu and state the reason you wish to cancel. Title the email 'Summer Housing Cancellation.'
Any student who applies for and receives a housing assignment for the Summer Term, and subsequently cancels the housing assignment will be responsible for the following cancellation fees:
- A student who has not moved in and who cancels the housing assignment more than 48-hours before their scheduled move-in day will not receive a cancellation fee.
- A student who has not moved in and who cancels the housing assignment less than 48-hours before their scheduled move-in day, will be charged for 7-days in their assigned room as a cancellation fee.
- A student who moves in and then cancels the housing assignment will be charged for the full duration of their assignment.

I'm moving in May 16, how and when can I check-in?
When & how do I check in?
- Living on-campus for the spring: You will remain in your spring housing assignment until Tuesday, May 16. You will then move into your summer housing assigment on Tuesday, May 16 between 10am-4pm. Follow these 2 steps to complete your spring to summer transition:
- First, complete an Express Self Check-Out in the AU Housing Portal as you depart your spring housing assignement.
- Second, arrive at the check-in location (see locations below) for your summer housing assignment to complete check-in.
- Living off-campus for the spring: Summer housing opens on Tuesday, May 16 at 10am. Students can request to move in on or after this date. When you're ready to move-in, arrive at the check-in location (see locations below) for your summer housing assignment to complete check-in.

- Summer Centennial Residents: Check-in at the Anderson Hall front desk with your AU OneCard.
- Summer Frequency Residents: Check-in at the Frequency Apartments front desk with your AU OneCard.
I'm moving in after May 16, how and when will I check-in?
Summer check-in is a simple process. Please see the information below to plan for your arrival to campus.

- Move-in carts may not be available during check-in. We encoruage you to pack to move-in your items without a cart.

How do I move out?
Moving Out Before August 16, 2023:
- General Check-In Information:
- You can check-out 24/7 at the location listed below.
- Move-out carts may not be available during check-out. We encoruage you to pack to move-out your items without a cart.
- Steps to Check-Out:
- First, remove all items personal belongings from the room, dispose of all unwanted items in approriate locations, clean your space and return all furniture to it's location at move-in.
- Second, visit the AU Housing Portal to complete Self Check-Out.
- After completing Self-Check Out in the AU Housing Portal, where do I check-out?
- Summer Centennial Residents: Check-out at the Anderson Hall front desk with your AU OneCard.
- Summer Frequency Residents: Check-out at the Frequency Apartments front desk with your AU OneCard.
Moving Out on August 16, 2023:
- Living on-campus for the fall: You will remain in your summer housing assignment until Wednesday, August 16 and you will move into your fall housing assigment on this day. HRL will share further details in advance.
- Living off-campus for the fall: Students residing off-campus for the fall semester must move out of summer housing by Wednesday, August 16. HRL will share further details in advance.
If I'm living on campus now, can I stay in my current spring room for the summer?
If your spring housing assignment is in Centennial Hall or Frequency Apartments, we will do our best to allow you to remain in your academic year room assignment if you request your summer housing to begin on May 16, 2023.
Are the residence hall policies different over the summer?
Summer policies are the same as the academic year. Please review the Summer Housing and Lisence Agreement linked on this page and Student Conduct Code.

Will I have a roommate as a summer resident?
All summer 2023 housing assignments in Centennial Hall and Frequency Apartments will be in double occupancy rooms. Summer residents should expect a roommate.
When will I know that I am confirmed for summer housing?
We anticipate being able to house all applicants who meet the academic and date requirements for summer housing:
- Eligibility: If you meet the eligibility based on summer enrollment or fall enrollment and an on-campus housing assignment.
- Date: A minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) is required when requesting summer housing.
How will mail and packages be handled in the summer?
Mail and packages will be handled differently based on the hall where each student resides. Please visit the Mail and Packages webpage for specific instructions for Centennial Hall residents.
- Summer Centennial Residents - Mail Services will start receiving packages for summer residents on Monday, May 15.
- Summer Frequency Residents - AU Mail Services does not manage Frequency mail. All mail and packages are delivered directly to the Frequency. Summer residents should ensure their mail and packages arrive on or after the date they are scheduled to move in.
