Thank you for expressing interest in our talented students and alumni. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all campus recruitment activites will be virtual for the fall 2020 semester. Contact us about VIRTUAL options to the engagement opportunities below. We look forward to partnering with you as you develop and implement a VIRTUAL recruitment strategy specific to American University. To get started, check out these tips on creating virtual internships.
Please take advantage of our online resources and services listed below and contact Sharena Payne for more information.
JOB & INTERNSHIP FAIRS
Meet exceptional students and alumni at our fall and spring Job and Internship Fairs, which are widely regarded as the most affordable and well-organized recruiting events in the D.C. area.
Enjoy the efficiency and convenience of interviewing AU students and alumni through our free On-Campus Interview (OCI) program. From late September through early December and February through April, transform our fully equipped interview rooms into satellite offices for you and your recruiting team.
Use Handshake to request an interview date, post available positions, review resumes from qualified candidates, and select interviewees. Then contact our Employer Relations team at least 3 weeks prior to your preferred interview date for assistance in organizing your OCI. You will be provided with a parking pass and Internet access through your personal laptop while on campus.
Employer meet-Up Sessions
To generate buzz about your upcoming on-campus interviews and further brand your organization, host an information session, which includes a meet & greet opportunity, open to all interested students. Submit your afternoon or evening information session request through Handshake and partner with our Employer Relations team, who actively promotes information sessions to appropriate audiences. Due to space limitations on campus, information sessions are only accommodated for organizations conducting on-campus interviews in the same time frame or are in the top 25 of the Desired Employers List as ranked by students through our biannual survey. As an alternative, we are happy to promote your organization through our Employer Pop-Up tables or virtual events.
Employer Pop-Up Tables
To generate buzz on campus about your organization, host an Employer Pop-Up table in our bustling Mary Graydon Student Center, on the quad, or another high-traffic area. You will have up to three hours (free!) to interact and engage with our student population, share information about your organization and job & internship opportunities.
Request a date through Handshake and partner with our Employer Relations Specialist to actively promote your session to appropriate audiences.
NETWORKING RECEPTIONS & INDUSTRY EVENTS
These (free!) networking receptions provide an opportunity to connect with AU students, alumni, faculty, and staff to give professional advice, share information about your organization and discuss career opportunities. The AU Career Center co-hosts four annual industry-based receptions in partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations, and each of our partner schools (CAS, SIS, SOC, SOE & SPA). These are bustling, active events that typically attract 150+ highly qualified students and alumni interested in a specific industry. Find additional information as well as dates and times on Handshake.
Be on the look out for other VIRTUAL networking recptions coming soon!
Public Service Work Study Program
Hire talented, committed, part-time staff members for a fraction of the usual cost. Partner organizations - non-profit organizations and government agencies - hire AU students with Federal Work Study awards for part-time positions in the fall, spring, or summer terms. Partners pay only 25% of students' wages, while federal funds cover the rest. To learn more, visit the Public Service Work Study Program page or contact the Student Employment Coordinator.
