SUBJECT: 2020 Open Enrollment, November 1 – 15, 2019

American University’s open enrollment is your annual opportunity to make changes to your medical, dental, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and group legal benefits. Thanks to efforts to keep costs for you as low as possible, the change in the cost of our plans will range from a premium decrease to modest increases, depending on the plans in which you are enrolled.

Effective January 1, 2020:

  • CareFirst rates will increase by 1.4%.
  • Kaiser Permanente rates will decrease by 3.73%.
  • Delta Dental rates will increase by 5% though rates will not change again until January 2022.
  • There will be no increase (0%) in the life, disability and group legal plans.
  • There are no plan design changes. All copayment levels, coinsurance amounts and deductibles will remain the same in 2020.

We hope that you will join us for the Benefits & Wellness Fair that will be held on Thursday, November 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Mary Graydon Center, Rooms 2-5. You will also be able to meet with benefit providers, wellness and campus partners, participate in fair activities, and make your open enrollment elections onsite with HR staff to assist you.

We are excited to announce that the Benefits Fair is one of several opportunities for faculty and staff to be entered into a raffle to win an American Airlines or American Eagle round-trip ticket good for travel anywhere in the continental U.S. (Hawaii and U.S. territories excluded), Canada and Mexico. We want to thank each of you for your work to move the university forward in realizing our goals to reach an even brighter future for the university. In recognition of all of your work, AU is randomly selecting fourteen winners from the submitted raffle entries on Thursday, November 21. Six round-trip tickets will be selected for students, and four each for faculty and staff. You can enter by participating at any of the upcoming health and wellness activities.
